Your Coaching Journey
7 Steps In Your Journey
1. Chemistry
Chemistry is an imperative and it’s intangible. That’s why our first session is complimentary.
It’s a no obligation exploration to assess whether working together is a good fit. Chemistry is important to any productive, ongoing, and trusting relationship. It’s no different when you’re seeking a coach. Remember, this is your telephone call, so I’ll happily answer any questions you have, whether it’s about me, or how I work, during our 30 minute conversation.
If you have questions in advance of our initial call, please review the Q&A section. It may answer any immediate concerns you have. And, in general, will offer the chance to familiarize yourself with the power of coaching.
After agreeing to the logistics of our engagement, we’ll move into the Discovery phase.
2. Discovery
Let’s think big! Your possibilities are endless, and the world isn’t served by you playing small.
Everyone is a Leader.
During our two Discovery sessions, we’ll explore Leadership 101 and what that means to you–in your life. This is an opportunity to explore your goals and aspirations. And clarify what you want to achieve from our coaching engagement.
3. Assessment
Assessments often relate to how you show up and how you are perceived by others. There is no right or wrong and when administered correctly the results can be enlightening.
I am a qualified Myers-Briggs (MBTI) Practitioner, as well as a HOGAN Assessor and Predictive Index (PI) Analyst. I recently completed certification in EQ-I 2.0 and EQ 360. Each engagement offers you the opportunity to utilize my extensive experience and knowledge of leadership and psychological assessments.
This assessment will help identify two things:
Leadership style
Your leadership style demonstrates what type of leader you are and how you present to your team. What are your strengths? What’s your preferred communication style? What behaviors do you exhibit under stress? It’s an overview of how you are in relationship with others–and yourself.
Saboteurs
Your saboteur is your inner critic. It’s the voice inside that maintains the status quo by being a negative force. Usually formed in childhood as a protection mechanism, it’s a narrative that can get in the way as we mature. It’s the “I’m not good enough, smart enough, pretty enough.” The great thing about saboteurs is that we all have them. By naming and understanding them–we can silence the voice and conquer the inner critic.Once we gain insight into our narrative, leadership style and other relevant findings, we’ll maximize your coaching experience, evoke transformation, and provide a deepening of your leadership effectiveness, personal growth, and awareness.
4. Coaching
Coaching is comprised of a myriad of things including perspectives. Imagine how differently the earth looks from a hot air balloon versus laying on the beach… Coaching evokes transformation as we view problems, situations and even our world, through a different lens.
Sessions are 60 minutes each and occur weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly.
The duration of an engagement is typically six months. On occasion, I work with clients for a shorter period of time–but that’s agreed in advance on an individual basis.
5. Communication
Differing communication styles are normal. Family norms, personality types, birth order and gender denote how we communicate. Ethnicity can also play a role in determining how emotionally constrained or emotionally open we are in expressing our feelings. As we develop into adulthood and enter the workforce, we adapt our style to meet organizational and societal norms. As a result many of us learn to model a different communication style; one that serves us more effectively.
I believe communication and trust are at the cornerstone of a successful coaching relationship. As such, between our formal coaching sessions we’ll maintain regular contact via email or text. I enjoy the informality of my clients checking in. You’ll likely receive materials including articles, recommended books or notes to further support self-work pertaining to your specific area of expertise or interest.
6. Accountability
Imagine finding yourself in a huge tidal wave. It’s all on you. You can either go with the course of nature, or fight against it. Regardless, it’s just you and the wave. It’s frightening. It’s overwhelming and you are the only person whose accountability matters in that moment.
A significant aspect of coaching is accountability. To yourself. Nothing happens during the coaching relationship that you, as my client, do not actively agree with–and it’s important to remember that. However, to gain access to your inner self and thrive, you’ll likely be uncomfortable at times. However, you’ll be supported by me throughout. Never hesitate to check in with me on your process and progress. If something isn’t working, tell me. If something clicks, I want to hear that, too.
7. Completion
The Co-Active model of coaching encourages the notion of “being complete.” At the conclusion of our engagement, we’ll plan a final session. This conversation will center around your learnings, as well as a reminder of the wrap around toolkit we’ve developed together. This ensures your continued success and growth as a leader and fellow human.
