Courage
Courage is one of my top three values.
It comes from the Latin word “Cor” meaning “Heart.” (The French evolved it into “Coeur.”)
Historically, it was a term used as way to tell one’s truth with their heart, or as Brené Brown’s research demonstrates, “to live wholeheartedly.”
Courage is often associated with heroism or bravery (which has its place in history, too.)
As a coach, I believe Courage lies at the seat of leadership.
Others may argue that the single, non-negotiable character trait for a leader is Integrity. (An opinion I appreciate.)
But to me, one cannot lean into the difficult task of maintaining integrity - especially in the face of challenge - without first honoring the presence of Courage.
